Boiler Room (2000) (Blu-Ray) [Blu-ray] Specifications

The intense soundtrack of Boiler Room is a fitting underscore for this movie, which pulses with the vigor of young, rich, amoral men wreaking havoc. This is not the antisocietal havoc of Fight Club, but the more deliberate mayhem that comes from greed run amok. The testosterone-junkie brokers of J.T. Marlin (the only female in the office is Abby, the receptionist and love interest, played by Nia Long) are out to make the sale, and whether that sale is legal or ethical doesn't matter.

Seth Davis (Giovanni Ribisi) is a 19-year-old college dropout who strives for approval from his father (Ron Rifkin), a judge who is horrified that his son operates a 24-hour illicit casino. When an old friend visits the casino with a fellow broker, Davis is impressed by their wads of money and yellow Ferrari, and decides to join the firm. In no time he's making sales and settling into the groove of the office and all the after-hours perks, but the dream fades when Davis discovers the scam that is making all of the brokers wealthy beyond their dreams.

Borrowing heavily from Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross, Boiler Room is at its best when dealing with matters of money, and powerful scenes of Davis learning to be a "closer" showcase the significant talent of Ribisi, Nicky Katt, and Vin Diesel. The movie flounders when developing the relationship between Davis and his father, becoming sentimental and trite. However, as a fable of modern society and a nostalgic vehicle about the days of yuppies past, Boiler Room is right on the money. --Jenny Brown

Customer Reviews

I really liked this movie. Giovanni Ribisi is brilliant along with the rest of the cast. The film is done with care with a kind of taste Rounders (another great film). Besides the great characters, I use the theme of a rebellious son of a father looking hard united approval. While you will be taken by the number of f-bombs in the movie (which actually increases the number of Beverly Hills Cop, a very mainstream film with a large number of f-bombs) will remain with the film and himselfTime for the meaning of history and in connection with the characters. The Boiler Room offers a very satisfying film. Rent. Look at him. Immediately. Look at him.

Customer Reviews

Robotech The Shadow Chronicles [RTSC] is the first real attempt to breathe Harmony Gold to life, a fact that, at least in the United States is a sleeping giant.

Personally I find the series of films of 3.5 to five, so I rounded up. RTSC is basically the pilot for 88min what's the next saga of Robotech become that show how to add a fourth in the last three of the original. I think it's more than one episode OVA as a stand-alone movie, and although HG is currently in a new continuationRobotech Shadow Rising, and a live-action adaptation of the original series, starring Tobey Maguire and Warner Brothers.

My only real complaints stem from the fact that RTSC was not that big of a budget. Let's face it, even in a franchise in silence after almost 20 years is a risky business. There are some little things that have been set, the animation is often little troubleshooting.

Overall RTSC is starting a fun, the closest, I think, as has beenregain some realistic elements that made the original expected as a large and permanent. If you're a Robotech anime or this is a must if you're curious, I suggest you start with the original series, then get this film when you're done.

Harness the power of Blu-ray™ High Definition to captivate and entertain your whole family!

The Wild [Blu-ray] Specifications

A cuddly koala who wants to be fierce, a squirrel in love with a sarcastic giraffe, an addle-pated anaconda, and a lion with a secret set off from their cozy zoo to rescue the lion's adolescent cub from an accidental kidnapping. After braving the dangers of the big city and stealing a boat, they find themselves in the African jungle, where a renegade herd of wildebeest have decided they want to change their position on the food chain (understandable, really). The Wild is hodgepodge--it's never clear why these mismatched creatures are friends and plot elements seem haphazardly plucked from Finding Nemo, Madagascar, and Ice Age: The Meltdown (though the latter two were made at the same time as The Wild, so it's just unfortunate for this movie that they came out first). Despite a general air of manic desperation, The Wild does have its strengths: The animation is richly realistic, leading to some gorgeous depictions of light (not exactly a selling point for kids, but adults can appreciate it). Several characters pop out--a pair of sewer crocodiles sound like NPR's Car Talk guys; William Shatner (Star Trek, Boston Legal) is effectively scary as the cult-leader/choreographer of the wildebeest; and comedian Eddie Izzard lends some of his trademark smart and silly humor to Nigel, the disgruntled koala bear. Successful bits and pieces don't make for a great movie, but they keep The Wild from the brink of disaster. --Bret Fetzer

Crash [Blu-ray]

Crash [Blu-ray] Overview

Lives in Los Angeles intersect following a random car-jacking.

Crash [Blu-ray] Specifications

Movie studios, by and large, avoid controversial subjects like race the way you might avoid a hive of angry bees. So it's remarkable that Crash even got made; that it's a rich, intelligent, and moving exploration of the interlocking lives of a dozen Los Angeles residents--black, white, latino, Asian, and Persian--is downright amazing. A politically nervous district attorney (Brendan Fraser) and his high-strung wife (Sandra Bullock, biting into a welcome change of pace from Miss Congeniality) get car-jacked by an oddly sociological pair of young black men (Larenz Tate and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges); a rich black T.V. director (Terrence Howard) and his wife (Thandie Newton) get pulled over by a white racist cop (Matt Dillon) and his reluctant partner (Ryan Phillipe); a detective (Don Cheadle) and his Latina partner and lover (Jennifer Esposito) investigate a white cop who shot a black cop--these are only three of the interlocking stories that reach up and down class lines. Writer/director Paul Haggis (who wrote the screenplay for Million Dollar Baby) spins every character in unpredictable directions, refusing to let anyone sink into a stereotype. The cast--ranging from the famous names above to lesser-known but just as capable actors like Michael Pena (Buffalo Soldiers) and Loretta Devine (Woman Thou Art Loosed)--meets the strong script head-on, delivering galvanizing performances in short vignettes, brief glimpses that build with gut-wrenching force. This sort of multi-character mosaic is hard to pull off; Crash rivals such classics as Nashville and Short Cuts. A knockout. --Bret Fetzer

This film is in many ways kind of movement. It shows how we are connected by a simple or a deliberate act. the attraction of the bottom of the racism I heard were treated very well in the application. I would recommend watching this film to anyone. I'm glad I bought to rent, however, because it is the second time when you really connect all people in storyline.i Clock guess the old saying (what you sow), it is true.

Customer Reviews

OK, I've never played the game or read a book (but I got the first book here).

I liked these stories. I'm also a fan of the Animatrix as well.

I thought you did a good job in terms of reference for how big the war, but also the human factor. I enjoyed the duel, especially since from the standpoint of the Federal side was said. The stylized that you created for animation history.

Also: In specialFunctions, is the story of Halo So Far. This is a crucial featurette. I have mixed feelings if I recommend it, especially after the first or have all the episodes were observed. Has a lot of important information that could help us to explain what happens in each episode, as you see them, but at the same time, maybe I have more than what I did * not * so much and had to arrange things, as I watched the episodes.

Anyway, I really liked this!Hopefully they will do another DVD / BD at some point, I really need that one read the book now ... :-)

Julie & Julia [Blu-ray]

Julie & Julia [Blu-ray] Overview

Based on two true stories, Julie & Julia intertwines the lives of two women who, though separated by time and space, are both at loose ends...until th

Julie & Julia [Blu-ray] Specifications

Julie & Julia is a film that should be relished with gusto--accompanied by the freshest and best ingredients, pounds of butter, and bottles of the very best wine. It lovingly celebrates the life of one of American food's most influential and beloved figureheads: Julia Child--played here with zest, humor, and a sweet, subtle respect by Meryl Streep, whose performance is spectacular.

Julie & Julia is based on the book by Julie Powell, a frustrated New York bureaucrat who wants to be a writer. "But you're not a writer until someone publishes you," she moans. So she gives herself a challenge: to cook her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year, and to blog about it. As Powell (played with chirpy determination by Amy Adams), begins to find her groove as a cook, and her voice as a writer, the project takes on a life of its own--and in the end it does provide the struggling young woman with her life's purpose, to her very pleasant surprise. But mostly, Julie & Julia is a valentine to Child, to Child's amazing love affair with her dashing husband, Paul (Stanley Tucci, as divine as any soufflé in the film), and to her outlook on embracing life, and ordering seconds. Streep throws herself into the Child role with real affection for her character, and while certain of Child's idiosyncrasies--including her warbly voice and unflappable haphazardness in the kitchen--are retained, it's Child's character and vision which form Streep's portrayal, and which make the film so involving and rewarding.

Nora Ephron directs with deftness and a light touch, though she seems at times to be encouraging some of Meg Ryan's onscreen tics in Adams (the self-conscious head tilt, for one). But mostly she simply allows Streep to channel Child and her love of food, her husband, and 1950s Paris. And that is a recipe for something truly sublime. --A.T. Hurley

Customer Reviews

I'll make a confession at the front - I like everything because Meryl Streep is one of the most underrated actresses in film history. Your genius has an uncanny ability to appear in a character so completely that you can not fail to see the person who is, rather than the actress. This is the sign of an incredibly talented person and Streep hits on all cylinders in Julie & Julia, as she wears Prada in the Devil.

For those of us who do not know how JuliaChild was named as a world-famous, the film gives the story of how her husband moved from city to city government as a disgruntled employee has given his time to pursue things that interest them. While she tried her hand to a number of topics during his stay in Paris, France, eventually came to realize that cooking was his true passion and started. From high-level training in a prestigious cooking school to be approached by a couple of flakesPotential authors of books about cooking on a cookbook with recipes from English to work in France, Julia would have been the dream - boil French, Americans, who do not have to cook for their employees. It 'been worn, what was one of the most important culinary figures of our time, whose effects are still felt.

Julie & Julia is the story of a used 9 / 11 government group named Julie, who was inspired to do something with their lives in 2002 when he gotset their sights on their way from Julia Child's cooking all 500 + recipes in one year - and blogging about it! As a writer, she felt compelled to everything with their readers (who are always with you ") to share their ups and downs during the journey from the kitchen this year. I could tell Julie character, because for a living and many things in this film have been discussed on a blog, blog absolutely true. Julie has her big breakthrough was when the New York Timesa history of large for his blog and when writers, publishers of books, television shows and much more contact with the opportunities that it has gone up a book and then began to be this great movie.

My wife and I liked this film (and we knew we) for our special date night and I recommend it to bloggers, gourmets, and those who are curious about the emergence of a true legend in the history of cuisine as Julia Child. Watch this film!

I really had high hopes for Bullet in a Bible to the first live version of Green Day the release of their 2004 album American Idiot incredibly brilliant. Seeing the video of the band together for an epic American Idiot has convinced me of their live show was spectacular, and I hoped Bullet in a Bible that would capture.

For the most part, Bullet in a Bible was everything I had hoped - a great performance, huge crowds, great editing stage theatrics, you name it. UnfortunatelyThe concert will be broken after every song off for interviews and backstage footage. It 's all fun and interesting stuff, but they have saved for a bonus game, a concert documentary, and we continuously? The band is the construction of this great energy to every song, and then went to a U2 - Rattle & Hum] [Blu-ray turn the band touring a museum or in an interview backstage. My gripe is that I have done some other American Idiot in its entirety (as My ChemicalRomance The Black Parade Is Dead), before returning to the old things.

I mean, I really enjoyed Bullet in a Bible, and the band's performance is absolutely incredible, if they do the more recent material or dust off some of their classic hits. I saw Green Day's live (even in a crowd of this size), and this performance on living the experience as close to it.

If you're a fan of Green Day, especially from their album American Idiot, isjust to see Bullet in a Bible. This is one of the live versions I've seen recently, and were it not for the constant interruptions, it was a version of five-star safety. I only hope that another live-version is the chronicle of 21st Century Break Tour Down.

Edition Notes: Bullet in a Bible was published on Blu-Ray in 2009, and is well worth it if you have a Blu-ray. The video quality seems simple, and there are moments when you think you can walkright of the screen and the crowd. Blu-Ray does not include the audio CD of the concert that the standard CD / DVD Bullet in a Bible was released, but accounts for the increase, especially in terms of audio and video quality for this. The Bullet in a Bible Blu-Ray is the exclusive distributor with a large (sounds like Guy reviews), and is still available in stores.
